Actually, scratch and edit that.

I’ve seen foals:

  • at Coventry Colosseum (a.k.a. - The Kasbah)
  • at a HMV instore in Birmingham.
  • at Carling Academy, Birmingham (theoretically twice, but the first time around I had to leave early so I only saw them open with XXXXX into French Open before I left.)
  • and at Reading festival, 08

So it will be the 5th time. i’m just sayin’.

I’ve won 2 tickets to go to this… :) Will be the 3rd time, I think, that i’ve seen Foals, but the 1st time since TLF so i’m intrigued as to how the set will go down.
On a side note, I went to see Frank Turner in Leicester on friday night. He was pretty good. Ed Harcourt supported who was REAL good. I’d never heard his stuff before but he definately won me over. Dive Dive opened, and what I saw/heard of them, they sounded good too.

while it’s true that only boring people get bored… the thing about boredom is that it’s really boring. really fucking boring. i’m boring myself.

Often there comes a time in the progression of a band, usually between album number 1 and album number 2, that they find themselves conflicted between two different sounds. It happened with Nirvana, post bleach. Radiohead, Matchbook Romance, Red Hot Chili Peppers and even Minus The Bear who traded noodly-math-ambience for a zig zaggy melodic structure. The same can be thought of with Foals. It became apparent upon the release of Antidotes that the dancefloor indie pop sound of ‘Hummer’ and ‘Matheletics’ was on the way out and a much darker, more sinister melody was creeping in more evident on ‘Electric Bloom’ and ‘Big Big Love’.tlf takes that ball, and runs with it. The entire album has more in common with ‘Brazil is Here’, ‘Humanate’ and the other b-sides in respect of the Antidotes single club. Here the yelping and gnarling vocals have been trading for more soothing educated structure with more thought provoking lyrics. For me Foals have always been a progressive band, birthed out of a “college indie rock scene” friendly sound found on ‘Two Steps Twice’, growing into a darker, more edgy pop band with ‘Red Sox Pugie’ and finally culminating into an educated and expressive alternative band with ‘Miami’ and ‘After Glow’.
The typical undertones you feel accross the spectrum are still there, but Foals are now a totally different animal.

The Fly magazine first listen review of Foals - Total Life Forever.

Sounds very fucking promising :D I’m seriously excited about hearing this record.

Somebody should introduce Jimmy, Jack, Walty, Yannis and Edwin to tumblr. I’d follow them.

And Dave Ma. And Tinhead.

If they already have a tumblr tell me where it is?

FUTUROLOGY

foals:

here are some nuggets of GOLD.
predictions for what the world has in store for us.

+ w/ in 2 decades we will have a detailed understanding of how all the regions of the human brain work.

+ we will have the requisite hardware to emulate human intelligence w/ supercomputers by the end of the decade.

+ we will have effective software models of human intelligence by the mid-2020’s.

+ by the end of the 2020’s artificial intelligence will be able to pass the Turing Test ( a test devised to distinguish machine intelligence from human/biological intelligence) as in A robot will be able to pass itself off as a BIOLOGICAL HUMAN.

+ having achieved this level of development computers will be able to combine traditional strengths of human intelligence with the strengths of machine intelligence.

+ once machines achieve the ability to design and engineer technology as humans do, only at far higher speeds and capacities, they will access to their own designs and the ability to manipulate them. machines will be able to build themselves free of human interference. essentially evolving themselves.

+ nanotechnology will enable the design of nanobots: robots designed at the molecular level which will have the ability to work inside our bodies in theory reversing human ageing.

+ nanobots will interact with biological neurons to vastly extend human experience by creating virtual reality form within the nervous system !!!!

+ as virtual reality from w/in the nervous system becomes competative with real reality in terms of resolution and believability, our experiences will increasingly take place in virtual environments. second life anyone?

+ in virtual reality we can be a different person both physically and emotionally. In fact, other people ( such as yr girl/boy/friend) will be able to select a different body for you than you might select for yrself.

These are just some thoughts from a Mr. Ray Kurzweil which i’ve paraphrased.

what do you think? will we become machine hybrids? do you care?

are our mobile phones and growing dependence on social networking sites like this the start of this next phase of human civilization?

well……anyway have a fun friday night everyone. i leave you with these words from old mate Winston Churchill:

“THE FURTHER BACKWARD YOU LOOK< THE FURTHER FORWARD YOU CAN SEE”
