handed in roll of 120 film that I’ve put through my new Diana, some of them we’re splitzer shots, pretty hyped to see if they actually turned out. Snappy Snaps needs a week to develop the film just to put it on CD for some reason? SO I got’s to wait.
So I got home today and this was waiting on the doorstep for me. It’s a Fujica STX-1. I’m taking part in the Fujica project on Flickr which in a nutshell is an idea to send a film camera all around the world and I’m part of the British leg with two other people :).
It’s gonna be fun, I have two weeks to shoot a roll of film with it and post it on to the next person!
So i’m a reasonable chunk into this book, I’ve just gotten to the part where Eva has found out she’s pregnant and despite wanting a baby because she went apeshit and thought Franklin was gonna die or something, she now can’t decide if she does want one or not. Because she is a woman. And that’s what women do*. So far I’ve established two things:
1) this is an incredibly difficult book to read
- and on this note, perhaps I should mention that I’ve just come from Frankie Boyle books and a Charlie Brooker book before moving on to this one, both writers of which are incredibly witty and incredibly talented, but whose scope of the English language pales in comparison to Lionel Shriver’s. Seriously there are words in this book I’ve never seen written down before?!
2) Eva really likes talking about herself.
- and onthis note I’m referring to the dialogue that pretty much services as cathartic masturbation from Eva to Franklin, and i’m not necessarily criticizing the book for this as it’s obviously key to set the scene to understand why exactly Kevin flips his shit and murders a bunch of people, but I’m seriously talking about moments in the book where Eva talks about what her ideal husband would have been as opposed to “you, Franklin” and why she hates being American… I can only believe that this goes on to serve a greater purpose later (or hope that it will) otherwise it just feels like an internal monologue played out too long.
Those two points aside, it’s not to say I’m not enjoying the book, because I am, but I’m not gonna lie, I am finding it a little bit hard work, but it’s still captivating my interest enough to find out how it develops from here on in.
*jokes. you’re all lovely really.
so I made this for Jo at work, not gonna lie; it was a lot of fun… scene kid forevuh >.<.
